I am honoured to announce that The Cool Web will be opening the 2017 Wimbledon International Music Festival. The performance will take place on November 11th 2017 as a special commemorative concert marking Armistice day.
Robin O’Neill will once again be at the helm, this time directing the Philharmonia Orchestra, Sonoro and Merton Music Foundation Young Voices. Edward Grint will be singing the young Robert Graves.
This is the all important second performance of The Cool Web; not a particular easy feat for a large scale choral work from a relatively unknown composer. Sue Curtis and I are incredibly grateful to Anthony Wilkinson and WIMF for their belief in the piece, and support for our work as composer / librettist.
Wimbledon International Music Festival
2017 is the 9th season of the Wimbledon International Music Festival. Each year, the festival brings together some of the best artists from around the globe.
The Wimbledon International Music Festival continues to go from strength to strength and its extraordinary international roster of featured artists and ensembles is a huge tribute to all concerned. Long may it continue to bring the highest quality to Wimbledon
John Gilhooly, Director Wigmore Hall
The Cool Web
The Cool Web : A Robert Graves Oratorio was written by Jools Scott and Sue Curtis to mark the beginning of the WW1 centenary back in 2014. The libretto is based on the poetry of a young Robert Graves.
Scott’s beautiful, lyrical, energetic music was both glorious and deeply disturbing and conveyed the richness of Robert Graves’ poetry with unfailing passion and intensity
Fine Times Recorder
A fine piece of music, unfailingly sensitive text setting…moments of great dramatic intensity. I think it likely that The Cool Web will be regarded as a significant contribution to the canon of works that deal with war
