Whilst I was at St Paul's, drawn by the shiny lacquer and clear, bright tone of the tall Yamaha upright pianos that lived in our school practice rooms, I spent my spare time improvising and writing music. I wrote my first pop song If You Care at the age of 10, which was liked by the headmaster so much that he arranged a professional recording session at Logorhythm Music in Soho. My first taste of the studio. The cathedral choir performed my Final Amen in St Paul's when I was 12; when I was 17, I won the Bach Choir Carol Competition which resulted in two performances of So Long Ago One Christmas Morn at the Royal Albert Hall.
Since then, whilst I have continued to compose, I have become fascinated with performance, jazz and other modern genres. I have been a member of a touring band - The Duckworths - for which I write and perform, I have become versed in music technology and computer composition and have written music for a variety of different media, including the score for Will Becher's BAFTA nominated Boxed In - and continue to expand my portfolio, which now includes collaborations with some top artists/writers/producers. I've had commissions from Aardman Animation, The Daily Telegraph and Transport for London, and created soundtracks for audiobooks by Dr Seuss, Eric Carle, Mark Haddon, Rob Scotton and Alexander McCall Smith. In 2006 I collaborated with The Disablists (UK DMC Turntable Champions) on their winning piece, which they performed at the O2.
I am currently in the final stages of writing Vice - A Jazz Opera with librettist Sue Curtis. It's a dark tale full of revenge, murder and debauchery, with a diverse musical score to suit. You can find out more about Vice HERE
